Beginning in 2000, this year marks the 16th Grappa Cup Matches pitting Team USA against Team Sweden. The Grappa Cup Matches represent a tournament within a tournament. Team formats will be introduced during the 6 days of the Grappa Invitational without interfering with the individual competition. Team Sweden dominated in the early years, winning the first six Grappa Cup Matches straight. Team USA, however, has mounted a strong comeback over the years and has won the last three Grappa Cup Matches. The 25-year long head-to-head tally now stands at 9 Grappa Cups for Team Sweden and 6 for Team USA.

Beginning originally as a ten-round competition over 5 days (what the fuck was wrong with us back then??) ... as the years have carved away our stamina (and length off the tee by the way) ... we have been forced to carve away at the total number of rounds. This year's event will be 7 rounds consisting of 18 holes per day for five days, followed by 36 holes at Hilton Head National on the final day. The first 5 days will consist of 2-man teams from each side and will alternate between two "best-ball" formats (match play and stroke play). The last two rounds will consist of singles matches with one round of match play and one round of stroke play.
